The event, hosted by Maritime London and organised in partnership with the International Group of P&I Clubs (IGP&I)International Underwriting Association (IUA)London & International Insurance Brokers Association (LIIBA) and Lloyd’s Market Association (LMA), will bring together the London marine insurance and global shipping communities to examine how insurers are providing solutions to the key issues facing the maritime sector.

  • Marine insurance – a dynamic market place
  • Insuring shipping in a sanctioned world
  • ESG and marine insurance
  • The future of marine insurance in London

LIIBA “EY Summer Season” WEBINAR – SMCR

Friday 16th July 2021, 9.15-10.15am

The final topic in our “EY Summer Season” webinars, takes place on Friday 16th July 2021, 9.15-10.15am, and will be covering Senior Managers & Certification regime (SMCR).

In this presentation, EY will explore:

  • A reminder of what SMCR is and what is its role within UK Financial Services? SMCR replaced the Approved Persons Regime and applies to all FCA regulated firms. It places personal accountability and obligations on almost everybody that works within the regulated financial services sector in the UK.
  • How have firms’ prepared for and implemented SMCR? SMCR has now been rolled out across the industry and firms have taken different approaches in terms of implementation and preparation. We’ll discuss some of these approaches including the steps to determine their SMF population and prescribed responsibilities, to highlight overlaps and gaps in current organisational responsibilities and early engagement with HR and training for staff.
  • What key changes have been introduced that are different to the previous regime? We’ll look at two of the biggest changes introduced by SMCR; The Certification Regime covers people who are not Senior Managers but whose jobs mean they can have a big impact on customers, the firm and/or market integrity. The Conduct Rules apply to almost everybody within a firm and extend to all aspects of the business, including those areas which the FCA does not regulate.
  • What lessons have been learnt so far? Firms have faced a number of challenges in relation to implementation as a one size fits all approach doesn’t work for SMCR.
  • Attendees will gain an understanding of the SMCR regime, how it applies within the UK and how firms can take practical steps to ensure ongoing compliance.
