LIIBA Virtual Seminar – Data Protection & Privacy Challenges for Insurance Brokers
Grant Thornton have agreed to host a virtual seminar for LIIBA Members on Tuesday 8th December 2020 at 9.15am.
If it wasn’t already a substantial challenge for your firm, Data Protection and Privacy compliance has just got real.
We’re facing the looming possibility of a No Deal / “Fudge” Brexit outcome to govern our data transfers with the EU; mass remote working has brought corporate information into all of our kitchens and spare rooms; and the technology we rely upon every day, e.g. Alexa, has never been more vulnerable to leaks and attacks by crafty hackers keen to grab hold of client data. To simplify the requirements and help the broker community navigate this regulatory minefield, Grant Thornton’s specialist Data Protection & Privacy team will provide a presentation to cover:
- What has changed for insurance brokers since 25 May 2018, when GDPR was implemented in the UK and EU?
- What does “Good” look like across governance, policies, security and ongoing training?
- How should senior officers approach the DP challenge and apply the “accountability principle”?
What’s the cost of getting it wrong? In October 2020, the Information Commissioners Office fined British Airways £20m after an investigation found the airline was processing a significant amount of personal data without adequate security measures in place. This failure broke data protection law and, subsequently, BA was the subject of a cyber-attack during 2018, which it did not detect for more than two months.
Should you have any questions ahead of the session, please send them to Jo Brady (LIIBA) by Monday 30th November so that Grant Thornton can address them in their remarks: Jo.Brady@liiba.co.uk.
Members are requested to register for the event, please email Jo.Brady@liiba.co.uk providing names and email addresses for anyone wishing to participate. Dial-in details for the event will be sent to all attendees nearer the date.
